Something Pretty

Marchesa, Spring 2011

For some reason these dresses remind me of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and it’s wonderful movie soundtrack. This is definitely going to be my playlist for the rainy week to come!

Out of the Blue

Derek Lam, Spring 2011

The collection was full of confidence, color, and independence with modern updates of classic looks. Some new and some retro, these songs will set the perfect mood.

Let Her Dance - The Bobby Fuller Four

This Time Tomorrow - The Kinks

Street Fighting Man - The Rolling Stones

Sweet Jane - The Velvet Underground

Vagabond - Wolfmother

Everyday People - Sly & the Family Stone

The Rising Sun

Proenza Schouler, Spring 2011

Part II

The first half of the collection was full of warm pastels and slouchy shapes, the perfect embodiment of relaxed ladylike simplicity. One song in particular fits that mood, and that is Morning Song by a fantastic band called Le Loup. Their entire album Family is the perfect mellow, lazy, dreamy music that relaxes you and puts you in a good mood. Morning Song is the highlight, making you forget what you’re doing at that moment, and transporting you to a hillside as you watch the sun rise.

Sea Out

Timo Weiland, Spring 2011

Timo Weiland, the fantastic up-and-coming New York based line comprised of Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein, is definitely one to watch. As a longtime fan I was so excited to see their spring offerings and the collection did not disappoint! Updated nautical stripes were mixed with lace, florals, and printed silks, and the chic accessories did not go unnoticed. I can’t wait to see what else these boys have up their sleeves, and I especially can’t wait to get my hands on that cropped blazer in the second look to the left…

Dark Tower

Donna Karan, Fall 2009

Donna Karan knows women. Her collections are consistently interesting, innovative, and luxurious, but always flattering and body-conscious. This particular collection is my personal favorite from her vast body of work; luxe fabrics, feminine silhouettes, and bold accessories are combined with expert tailoring and sleek hair and makeup to make a bold, sophisticated collection. The Donna Karan woman is strong, independent, and womanly, and this collection perfectly sums that up.

When the Sun Don’t Shine

Diane von Furstenberg, Fall 2009

Who doesn’t love DvF? She consistently makes beautiful clothing that flatters women of all shapes and sizes, and brings a bold sense of confidence and empowerment to the wearer. From the wrap dress to a ball gown, Diane von Furstenberg can do it all. Plus she is the only person who can make me lust after a giant pom-pom hat! (I’m still dying for one…)

Roadrunner

Tory Burch, Pre-Fall 2011

If Laura Ingalls Wilder lived in 1960’s Palm Beach, this would be her wardrobe. In other words, pure hippie chic at its finest. Congratulations Tory on another fantastic collection! I’m off to buy a vintage paisley mini-dress and some granny socks!
