17. Lanvin, Fall 2011

Alber Elbaz is my hero. This collection is frothy and girly yet totally sophisticated, and that’s exactly what Lanvin does best. We love you Alber!

16. Jenni Kayne, Spring 2012
I just love Jenni Kayne. She gets me: classic clothes with chic details and fun accessories like metallic flats and bold eyewear. Nothing flashy, nothing crazy, and nothing trendy, but totally attention grabbing and feminine. I pray in the Church of Kayne.

18. Alexander Wang, Fall 2011
I call this collection “goth ski bunnies.” It’s as if Mary Kate Olsen and Mick Jagger decided to go to Aspen on vacation and share a suitcase. Plush furs, dramatic shoes, and metallic accessories combined to make a stunning collection that is still being coveted by fashion fans all these months later. I’m not the typical Wang girl, but this one made my heart go a flutter.

20. DKNY, Spring 2012
You can’t have a year end roundup without a little DKNY! I was lucky enough to attend this show back in September and it was an experience I’ll never forget. The dramatic Cedar Lake location highlighted the extreme elements in the collection: long trains of fabric, HIGH heels (wedges to be exact), and large wide brimmed hats. Donna knows how to do it right, and I can’t wait to get my hands on these bold prints and daring accessories come spring.

19. Thakoon, Resort 2012
As I said in my original post, if Mulan, Andrew Mukamal, and a china set had a fashion baby, this would be it. It still applies, and that is definitely a good thing.

13. Junya Watanabe, Spring 2012
Gotta give some menswear love! Junya is my favorite and this collection was the usual balance of classic and wacky. At first glance it could be any other group of country-inspired overalls and wellies, but with details like mismatched patches and clashing patterns, it was perfectly Junya in every way.

14. Betty Jackson, Fall 2011
Betty Jackson is not a name you normally see in fashion magazines, but this collection remains one of my favorites of the year. Sort of a demure Yohji Yamamoto, the whole collection was detailed, different, and stunning. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Ms. Jackson does in the new year.

15. Ralph Lauren, Spring 2012
Ralph is classic Americana and you can always count on him for a strong collection, but Spring 2012 really made me sit up and notice. Each look was more stunning than the next and reminded me of what makes Ralph so great. A runway full of Great Gatsby attire is always a win in my book, but Ralph’s version was the best I’ve seen in years.

12. Mary Katrantzou, Spring 2012
Mary Katrantzou has been one to watch all through 2011, and 2012 is going to be big for this London-based designer. Her eye for color, pattern, and silhouette sets her apart from her peers, and she continually improves season after season. I’m really excited to see what she does in the year to come, and I suggest you all keep her on your radar too.

11. Erdem, Fall 2011
My love for Erdem Moralioglu knows no bounds. Talented is an understatement guys. I’ve loved every season since the beginning, but Fall 2011 was a particular favorite. With the brush stroke patterns and bold jewel tones, I’m still lusting after it all.

9. Armani Prive, Fall Couture 2011
STU-NNING. The origami folds, pastels mixed with black, and the gorgeous hair and beauty looks that complimented it all. Armani is a classic, but this collection was a true accomplishment.

7. Prabal Gurung, Fall 2011
2011 was the Year of Prabal. This collection was full of contradictions: delicate and tough, light and dark, romantic and goth. The result was completely beautiful, and just the tip of the talent iceberg.

8. Dries van Noten, Spring 2012

We all know that Dries van Awesome is the king of the world, so it’s no surprise that Spring 2012 was completely amazing. The black and white patterned looks mixed with bold orange and navy blue worked perfectly, and the simple yet detailed shapes of the clothing showcased Dries’ signature craftsmanship. He is my hero. The end.

10. Pucci, Fall 2011
So luxurious. Lace, velvet, jewels, bold colors, and sexy body-con silhouettes made this collection a total win.
