Christian Siriano, Spring 2012
When Tumblr gave us our schedules for the week, I was very happy to see Christian Siriano’s name. After rooting for him during his season of Project Runway, it’s been nice to see him succeed in the real world. While his clothes have always been pretty, I wanted more from him. The collections needed refinement and an overall focus on what he is great at: creating dramatic clothing that is in turn mature and ladylike. There was always one too many fabrics, one too many colors, or one too many details. This season Christian found his focus. Huge ball gown skirts were paired with simple tees and sunglasses to create casual but incredibly chic ensembles. The color palette of neutrals and bright citrus neons was refreshing and cheerful, and the use of heavily shagged feathers and layered chiffon was surprisingly light and airy. With the sharp eye of stylist Danielle Nachmani and a matured sense of design, Christian created a beautiful spring collection, and I can’t wait to see how else he grows in the future.
